FAC's Adoption Programs & Information
The following children need to find an adoptive family as soon as possible. Please contact any FAC office if you feel you can open your home or your heart to a special child from China. Photos of all the children are available from FAC.

Zheng is a sweet 1 ½ year old boy who is usually quiet and timid, but can occasionally have a bit of a temper! He has grown under the loving care of a foster family since a young age. Zheng’s development was positive during his first year. He loves to imitate, can make simple sounds, and follow instructions. His arms are strong, but he is not yet able to walk independently. Zheng has “ambiguous genitalia”. He will require surgery to enhance the appearance of his genitalia. It is unknown at this time whether he will be fully functional, but surgery and possible hormone treatment as well as good psychological support he has a good chance of leading a normal life. He will need an adoptive family with access to the resources necessary to manage the treatment he needs. There are several clinics in the US with experience in treating children with this defect and there is considerable information and support available to assist any family interested in adopting this child.

Zhang is a 3 ½ year old active and lovely boy. He initially lived in an orphanage setting, but has been in foster care since summer 2008. His caregivers describe him as an obedient and capable child who has good self-care skills; he can eat by himself, use the bathroom independently, and go up and down stairs without help. He has good manners and will share food with other children. Zhang loves outdoor activities, and likes to draw pictures. He has a good memory and good comprehension capacity. Zhang likes to listen to music and will sometimes dance. He also likes watching TV and can imitate what he sees. Zhang has some mild developmental delays that may have already improved since placement into foster care. If not, he may need intervention to assist in his learning. He also has a skin condition, which causes very dry patches of skin on parts of his body. FAC is requesting updated information on Zhang.

Chen is nearly 5 years old. He has had surgery to repair a cleft lip and palate. He has been residing in a foster home since shortly after he was placed at the orphanage. Chen is described as active, with a ready smile. He is smart, bright, enjoys watching cartoons, listening to music while dancing and following the music. He is energetic, has quick reactions, likes to play with other children and would like to go any places filled with people. He likes outdoor activities and taking photographs. He likes playing with a cell phone. He has a strong imitating ability. FAC’s medical consultant reported his development “is mildly delayed but no major worries”. The family adopting Chen should be prepared for the possibility that he may require supplemental education services.

Qian is a 3 year old little boy who loves to bounce toy balls. Although he is very shy and does not talk much, his caregivers describe him as a lovely and adorable boy. He gets along well with other children, and is fond of playing games. Qian has undergone 2 operations to repair a congenital cleft lip and palate. His physical growth and developmental progress are below normal for his age. His development is significantly delayed in all areas. When assessed at the age of 2 ½ he could walk unsteadily, imitate words, and understand simple sentences. Qian would benefit from an adoptive family who can give him a great deal of individual love and attention. The family adopting Qian should expect life-long disability and be prepared to provide him with some level of assistance throughout his life.
