Families in all stages of the adoption process are welcome – from families just beginning the process to experienced families who are dealing first-hand with some of these issues. The more diverse the audience, the more we will learn! We encourage all FAC families to attend; attendance is also open to families who have adopted through other resources.

SESSION 1: April 24th – “Isn’t Love Enough?” Encouraging Attachment with Your Adopted Child - Discover ways of “jump starting” the attachment process for both you and your child. This workshop will examine how and why attachment occurs, barriers to successful attachment and most importantly, what you can do NOW to help prevent attachment problems later.
SESSION 2: April 24th - A Family Journey through Placement/Core Issues Affecting the Family of Adoption - All members of the adoptive family have unique feelings regarding the adoption. Learn about yourself, your child, and how to tackle those difficult feelings and questions!
SESSION 3: April 24th – Helping Your Family Become Multicultural – Adopting a foreign-born child forever changes the way your family is perceived by the world around us. This workshop will examine ways that you can help your child assimilate into your world and ways in which you must keep your child’s birth culture alive for him/her.
SESSION 4: April 25th – Medical Issues in International Adoption - What should I be looking for in my referral information? When should I be concerned about my baby’s development? What extra tests and precautions will I need to take with my foreign born child? Now’s your chance to ask the experts!
SESSION 5: April 25th – “Who Am I and Where Did I Come From?” – The Search for Self –
A Panel of Adult Adoptees, Birth Parents, and Adoptive Parents share their personal experiences.
The Presenters
Therese Dragga, a Registered Nurse at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio has been caring for children for more than 28 years. She has been in her current position with Rainbow’s Department of Global Health for the past 8 years. Therese works with families who are preparing to adopt, then provides post placement services for internationally adopted children after they join their new families. Therese also meets with refugees for their initial health screening once they arrive in the USA.
Lydia Keto, LSW, has worked as a social worker for the past twelve years. She has experience in child protection and post adoptive work through Summit County Children Services. The past 5 years she has been employed with FAC facilitating international adoptions.
Vicki Phillips, LISW-S, has worked as an adoption social worker since 1996. She has experience as a birth parent counselor, case manager for infant and special needs children, clinical supervisor, and director of a local foster care and adoption agency. Vicki is also an experienced trainer regarding adoption related issues.
Jodi Ford Rice, LSW, has over 20 years of experience working in the child welfare field with children and families. She has been an adoption trainer for the Adoption Academy at Columbus Nationwide Children’s Hospital for the past 5 years and been employed with FAC facilitating international adoptions since 2005. Jodi is also a proud adoptive mother.

FROM THE NORTH: Take 271 South to the Brecksville/Macedonia (Route 82) Exit. Turn left off the exit ramp. Proceed down Route 82. At the intersection of Route 82 and Route 91 [center of Twinburg] turn right. Creekside Drive is on the left side of the road [by the post office/Dairy Queen/Arby’s], approximately 1 mile from the Route 82/Route 91 intersection.
FROM THE SOUTH: Take 271 North to the Macedonia (Route 8) Exit. Turn left and proceed one mile north on Route 8 to Route 82 (Best Buy and Sunoco on the corner). Turn right onto Route 82 and remain on Route 82 East until you reach Route 91. Turn right onto Route 91, then left at Creekside, which is approximately 1 mile down the road on the left side.
FROM THE EAST: Take Route 480 West to the Twinsburg/Macedonia Exit at Route 82. Turn right off the exit ramp. Proceed down Route 82 to Route 91. Follow directions “From the North.”
FROM THE WEST: Take Route 480 East to Route 271 South; follow the directions “From the North.”
